Shalimar Beach Resort, FL

Shalimar Beach Resort, located on Sanibel Island in central Florida, was originally founded in 1959. The resort is surrounded by wildlife preserves and is known by visitors for its world-renowned white-sand beaches, water sports, and fresh seafood. In 2022, Hurricane Ian delivered a destructive force devastating nearly every part of the island. Opening in the fall of 2025, Shalimar Beach Resort is now a completely rebuilt hotel with 33 new units.

With the abundant wildlife on Sanibel Island, Shalimar Beach Resort wanted to be nature-positive in their business approach. They worked closely with Abigail Vance at Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC), and Madeleine Khoury at Sea Turtle Conservancy (STC). Architecture Joyce Owens LLC was utilized to ensure the project respected the environment, but also embraced the client’s vision for a modern, contemporary coastal retreat.

Wildlife Friendly FCBT690SA luminaires from FC Lighting were chosen to illuminate the walkways at night. To help preserve the natural behavior of indigenous wildlife in their habitat, these bollards feature a true AMBER LED with AllnGaP chip technology to produce amber color with spectral control between 590-600nm, above the 560nm required by Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission. Representative Kristi Spohn at SESCO Lighting was the sales agency for this impressive project.
